"Hourglass Rondo" is the name I gave to a project I originally completed for a music theory class, but have since expanded it to a full-length piece. It has a profound and hurried pace, evoking a strong feeling of running out of time. The melody throughout is inspired by video game music, specifically moments where the soundtrack does a brilliant job of conveying a serious, urgent, and somber tone.

The main compositional goal with this piece was to write a piece in rondo form, but also to create music with melodies and chords reminiscent of 19th-century practices. My twist, of course, was to make this music more modern by comparing it to video game music as well as to electronic music, hence the repetitive ostinato in the left hand throughout. Overall, "Hourglass Rondo" is a relatively short and simple piano piece I would recommend to players of any skill looking for music with emotion.
